Hiring someone into
your home is the highest-trust
hire you'll ever make.

Most households run staff — housekeepers, nannies, estate managers, groundskeepers — with no written handbook, no documented house rules, no vetting checklist, and no clean offboarding plan. When something goes wrong, there's nothing to point to. Placement agencies charge 25–35% of first-year salary and hand you a W-2 form. We build the management infrastructure they never gave you.

The real problem

No handbook.
No expectations. No plan.

Employing household staff is unlike any other employment relationship. The employee enters your private home, interacts with your children, handles your valuables, and operates inside your daily routines. The stakes are personal in a way that no office job is — and yet the average household employer has no written job description, no formal onboarding, no documented house rules, and no process for handling the uncomfortable situations that inevitably arise: a missing item, a broken boundary, a nanny who oversteps.

Offboarding is often worse. Without documented expectations, there's no baseline to reference when things end — no record of what the role actually required, no checklist to confirm keys and codes have been returned, and no reference template that honestly captures performance. Professional-grade HR documents aren't just about protection — they signal to good candidates that you are a serious, fair employer worth working for.

What's in the kit

Eight documents.
Everything you need to manage with confidence.

Household Employee Handbook
Your household's expectations in writing — house rules, privacy and confidentiality standards, scheduling and communication norms, code of conduct, and what happens when expectations aren't met. Built from your intake, not a generic template.
Role SOPs (up to 4 roles)
Written standard operating procedures for each role you employ: housekeeper weekly rhythm, nanny daily schedule and childcare expectations, estate manager scope and vendor coordination, groundskeeper seasonal task calendar. Your household's actual requirements, not generic job descriptions.
Vetting & Reference-Check Checklists
Structured pre-hire checklists covering background check categories to request, documentation to collect, and what to look for. Includes a reference-call script with specific questions designed for household roles, not generic professional references.
Interview Scripts
Role-specific interview guides with situational questions for household employment — how a candidate handles privacy boundaries, schedule changes, child or elder care emergencies, and working inside a private home. Framed so you can assess judgment, not just experience.
Onboarding Checklist
Day-one and first-week checklist: access provisioning (keys, codes, alarm), household systems orientation, role review session, handbook acknowledgment, emergency contact collection, and documentation filing. Nothing falls through the cracks on a new hire's first day.
Offboarding Checklist
Structured end-of-employment process: access revocation (keys returned, codes changed, account access removed), final documentation, reference policy, and a transition note for continuity. Clean offboarding protects both parties and avoids the most common post-employment disputes.
Performance Review Templates
Annual and semi-annual review templates calibrated to household roles — covering reliability, communication, household-specific performance criteria, and goal-setting for the next period. Documented reviews make wage discussions fair and defensible.
Household Payroll Orientation
Plain-English overview of household employer payroll obligations ("nanny tax," Schedule H, workers' comp, year-end documents) structured as a preparation document for your CPA conversation — not tax advice, but the right questions asked in the right order so that conversation goes fast.

How it works

Purchase the Staff Kit
Checkout takes under two minutes. Your receipt email arrives immediately with intake instructions. The 10-business-day clock starts when we receive your completed intake questionnaire — not at checkout.
Complete your intake questionnaire
We send you a structured questionnaire covering your household profile (property type, size, location), current and planned roles, schedules, house rules, privacy and confidentiality posture, and where you've experienced friction with staff in the past. This is what makes your kit yours — not a generic download.
We draft your documents
A human at BOOJEE assembles your complete kit — handbook, SOPs for your actual roles, vetting checklists, interview scripts, onboarding and offboarding checklists, review templates, and payroll orientation — based on your intake. Every state-variable item (overtime rules, required postings, workers' comp, paid leave) is flagged as something to verify locally.
One revision round
You review the drafts and send your changes — anything that doesn't match how your household actually works, anything you want added, anything you want softened. We turn around a revised final kit based on your feedback.
Receive your final kit
Your complete household HR kit arrives by email in editable format. You own every document — customize further as your household evolves, share with your estate manager, or use as the starting point for your staffing agency's client onboarding. With the Ongoing tier, we keep it current for you.

What this is and isn't.

Documents and guidance — not legal or tax advice. BOOJEE Household HR produces professional-grade organizational documents: handbooks, SOPs, checklists, and templates. These are not legal opinions, employment law filings, or tax returns.

Employment law varies by state. Overtime rules, required workplace postings, workers' compensation requirements, paid leave mandates, and other household employer obligations differ significantly across states and sometimes localities. Every document we produce flags these state-variable items explicitly — but confirming whether a specific requirement applies to your household is your attorney's job, not ours. Have your employment attorney review the handbook before you adopt it. That review is worth doing once.

Household payroll is its own subject. Our payroll orientation document organizes the key questions a household employer needs to discuss with their CPA — Schedule H, FICA obligations, state unemployment, year-end W-2 issuance. We make that conversation fast. We do not prepare payroll or file taxes, and nothing we produce is a substitute for working with a CPA who handles household employment.

What we do promise: organized, clear, professional-grade documents built from your actual household — the kind a quality estate manager would recognize as serious infrastructure — delivered within 10 business days of your completed intake.

Questions

Honest answers.

No. BOOJEE Household HR produces documents and guidance — not legal advice or legal opinions. A handbook creates clarity between you and your employee, which is valuable on its own. Whether a specific provision is enforceable in your state, or whether your household's employment setup triggers a particular legal requirement, is a question for a licensed employment attorney. We strongly recommend having your attorney review the handbook before you adopt it — not because our documents are sloppy, but because employment law varies by state and your household's specific situation matters. Our deliverables explicitly flag every state-variable item so that attorney review can be fast and targeted.
The core templates are written to be state-agnostic — they address the employment relationship itself (expectations, house rules, conduct, scheduling, performance) rather than making legal assertions that vary by jurisdiction. Every document includes a state-flag checklist: a list of items the household employer must verify locally before adopting the document. These flags cover overtime thresholds, required workplace postings, workers' compensation mandates, paid sick leave, and other household-employer obligations that differ by state. We cover all 50 states in the sense that the flag checklist applies everywhere — but what to do about each flagged item is your attorney's and CPA's job.
The Staff Kit covers one household property configuration — the intake questionnaire asks about your property, your roles, and your schedules for that location. For multiple properties with distinct staff, each property typically needs its own kit (different house rules, different roles, different access protocols). Estate managers and staffing agencies ordering for multiple client properties should email us at hello@BOOJEE.estate — we can discuss a multi-property arrangement rather than requiring separate full-price purchases for each.
One revision round is included with the Staff Kit. After you review the initial drafts, you send your feedback — anything that doesn't accurately reflect how your household operates, any rules or expectations we missed, anything you want worded differently. We turn around revised final documents incorporating your changes. The revision round covers substantive changes based on new or corrected information about your household; it isn't a second full build from a different intake. If the scope changes significantly after delivery, that's a separate engagement.
Yes. The B2B use case — an estate manager or staffing agency ordering a kit for a client household — is fully supported. The intake process works the same way: you answer the questionnaire on behalf of the client property, and the documents reflect that household's specific configuration. If you're ordering regularly across multiple clients, reach out at hello@BOOJEE.estate to discuss a more efficient arrangement. The Ongoing tier also works well for agencies who need new-hire document packs for clients on a rolling basis.
After checkout, your receipt email contains a link to the intake questionnaire — a structured form that asks about your household profile (property type, size, state), your current and planned roles (which roles, how many people in each, full-time vs. part-time), schedules and scheduling norms, house rules and privacy expectations, confidentiality requirements, current pain points or specific situations you want addressed, and any existing documents you want us to work from or supersede. The questionnaire is designed to take 20–30 minutes. Once we receive your completed intake, the 10-business-day clock starts.
Yes — cancel anytime, no questions, no penalty. You keep every document that has been delivered to you. Your documents are yours: editable files you own outright. Canceling the subscription stops future quarterly refreshes and new-hire document packs, but everything already delivered remains yours to use, adapt, and share with your estate manager or staffing agency as needed. To cancel, email hello@BOOJEE.estate or manage your subscription through your BOOJEE account.
